    Mike Bernard

    DIRECTOR, WRITER


    Mike Bernard is a filmmaker and multidisciplinary creative working across documentary and branded storytelling, with a background in photography (BAA, Ryerson University) and early roots in design and motion. His work focuses on making complex systems—and the people moving through them—clear, human, and accessible, often exploring architecture, infrastructure, recovery, and the systems we rarely stop to notice, guided by care, curiosity, and a preference for clarity over hype.

    Peter Roeck

    EDITOR, STORY EDITOR


    Award winning editor Peter Roeck has numerous and diverse credits including the internationally acclaimed feature film Kissed, as well as the feature film documentaries Lilith on Top Coast Modern and The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel for which he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Editing.  He was educated at the University of British Columbia and although his love and passion is editing, he also manages his own property development company

    Leah Mallen

    PRODUCER

    Leah Mallen, is a producer of internationally acclaimed film, TV and digital stories. She has collected many accolades including Best Documentary Award at the Zurich Film Festival and a Best Short Film Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Her productions have distributed all over the world, and she has seen much success across documentary, scripted and kids content. She has headed up her production company All in Pictures and also produces content at Vancouver’s Black Rhino Creative.  She is currently in production on several documentary series and films, she serves on the board of Vancouver’s Cinematheque, and co-produces the Architecture and Design Film Festival in Vancouver.

    Jess Fraser

    PRODUCER / DIRECTOR / WRITER

    An experienced creative, Jess has had the great privilege of being part of teams that have showcased their work at major festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Sundance and Toronto. She loves using storytelling as a vehicle to accelerate change in both local and international arenas and has directed short, impact driven films that have helped raise money for not for profit organizations and social enterprises nationally and internationally. She has also produced and directed a number of branded doc style pieces, commercials, and organizational media for clients across Canada.

    She co-created the Mobile Movement Project — a next generation, interactive, crowdfunding and collaborative development platform that partnered with UN HABITAT and USAID from 2009-2013.  What inspired her work was making ensuring people receiving investment and aid were directly seen and heard — making the invisible visible.  Mobile Movement was a Macarthur Foundation award winner and Jess was also honoured with the BC Council for International Cooperation’s Global Citizen’s Leadership Award for her work in this field.

    Thomas Buchan

    DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

    Thomas Buchan is a Victoria, BC–based filmmaker with over 15 years of experience in documentary, branded content, and narrative storytelling. Whether he’s directing national projects for CBC and the National Film Board or capturing high-concept commercial campaigns, he brings a collaborative spirit and keen visual eye to every phase of production—from concept development and storyboarding to on-set cinematography and post-production.

    Benjamin is a Vancouver-based editor, director, and composer working across narrative, documentary, and branded content. His award-winning short films have screened at festivals including TIFF, VIFF, SIFF, and Canal+, and have twice been Vimeo staff picks. He holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Victoria and a BMA in Film/Video and Integrated Media from the Emily Carr Institute.
